A spring/summer look we’ve fully gotten behind is…the let-out hem. From Current/Elliott’s cropped low-rise (we loved how Caroline Issa styled them above) to AMO’s Babe (Jane’s personal fave), and everything else out there – scroll down for our favorites to buy now – we’re coming undone for that raw, almost-degradé style. How it works: after a jean/denim skirt/dungaree is washed to the desired hue, the hem’s stitches are snipped and it’s straightened out. That’s why it has that kind of banded effect. Note: some jeans might not technically have their hems taken down, but just have a two-tone hem, reminiscent of the real thing; and we’re into that, too (see Sonia Rykiel’s wide-leg in our Get the Look) – it’s a little more polished for when string-y ends won’t do. Cropped, culotte-ish, or skinny, the undone hem looks really good on just about any jean… Go ahead, let it out.
