Earlier this summer, we got the call denim lovers dream of – Scott Morrison of 3×1 was on the line, asking if we’d be interested in styling his fall ’14 women’s lookbook.

What we love about Scott is his commitment to making denim the best it can be. Quality, integrity, and craftsmanship are the first words that come to mind when we think of 3×1, in part, because of the mini-factory of skilled sewers who produce a lot of the line at the NYC flagship. What better place to act as the backdrop for 3×1’s first lookbook than this workshop, Scott thought. We totally agreed.

It’s a good time to share these pictures, shot by Jean François Campos, because both the men’s and women’s collections are now available to buy (!!!). We loved working with Scott, Jean François, and model Zuzanna Bijoch – who brought energy and focus to every frame – on all the women’s looks. Our approach: to keep it simple and let the jeans lead. Elegant basics are always the best partner for a pair of beautiful blue jeans, we feel. For fall, the chicest thing for 3×1’s high-rise skinny is a collared shirt; the shoe to wear with a pair of black Shredders is a Common Projects slip-on; and the way to do coated denim is to double up on it.

As for the guy’s looks, stylist Browne Andrews put model Richie Cotterell in looks that emphasize 3×1’s clean lines and great fits. “My job was to be consistent with those principles, so I chose the minimal approach,” Browne told us. “The denim speaks for itself!”

“I love that the photos give you a real sense of 3×1, behind the scenes,” Scott said when we’d wrapped. So, does he have a favorite fall look? “As with most seasons, the washed denims are typically my favorite because I spend a lot of time in the laundry getting the washes just right,” Scott said before hesitating…”However, we are introducing a rigid, unwashed, selvedge in our women’s WM3 fit that has a brushed back. It feels softer than anything I’ve seen in my 18 years doing denim.” Did you hear that, ladies, soft and unwashed? If we hand’t seen it with our own eyes, we might not buy it. On Zuzanna, we paired it with a tissue-weight grey turtleneck, to put that softness that’s inside the jean right there on the look’s surface. You gotta feel it to believe it – go!
