Cut-offs, you are the best; you can never be replaced as a one of the most perfect summer styles ever invented. But, when Clare Waight Keller sent that pair of tailored denim shorts down her spring runway, well…it offered a new take on the jean-short concept, one that we’re adopting and adapting to now.

Why the tailored short? Because it looks good with everything from a tank, to a 70s-vibe blouse, to a crop top. Because, since it’s sans stringy edges, it’s a little more sophisticated. And, because it can go with so many different shoes. Try a gladiator. Or a sneaker (Common Projects, Converse, Vans). Or a flatform. Or, do the look like Beyoncé. Did you see her on Instagram in Stella McCartney’s denim short-romper? Check it out. You’ll see what we mean:

The knee-length tailored short is awesome, too (see Vuitton and Michael Kors, below). But we found that right now – when we want to stock up for summer – there are more thigh-skimming ones available to buy. Scroll down to shop our favorites. Wear them in the sun, and feel free but a little fancier.
