Before we get to Erin Foster’s jeans, let’s please talk about her lipstick, which not only stayed put, but didn’t fade a bit during our little splish-splash in the bath. How?! “The trick is to apply powder over the color,” Erin said right before jumping in the tub in her favorite J Brands. The proof is in the pictures, folks.

It’s important to mention here that wearing jeans under water is nothing new (the original Levi’s shrink-to-fits required it), but an L.A. actress wearing her favorite skinnies in the bathtub of her new Beverly Hills home – that was a first for us. Was it meant to be referential? No. But Erin, who has a really nice bathtub and an even better sense of humor, was all for getting in because, at the suggestion of it, why not, she said? If you’ve seen her show on VH1, in which she, with her real-life sister Sara, plays a comedic version of herself in a spoof-on-reality-TV show called “Barely Famous“, then you get how the bath could happen; Erin is totally fearless in her performance, not to mention hilarious, super smart and likable, even in the ridiculous situations she finds herself in. If you haven’t watched the show, well, you should. It’s on tonight.

So, but, Erin’s jeans… They are J Brand skinnies, but not the same J Brand skinnies she wears on TV (obv. because the show is a parody). “That Erin wears a dark denim high-waist J Brand Maria skinny a lot because they are very slimming and the camera adds all the pounds it has a reputation for adding,” she told me, which is to say that Erin (the real Erin) knows her J Brands and their effects. This Erin also ripped that hole in the knees of her jeans and had no qualms about wearing a white t-shirt in the water. May we all learn lessons in lipstick and looking gorgeous while not taking ourselves too seriously from her.

First, how long have you had your J Brands and where did you get them?

I’ve had them for about 3 years, and I actually can’t remember where I got them. Maybe Barneys.

Use one word to describe your jeans, please.

Comfortable.

What do you love most about them?

I never feel self-conscious in them because they are loose, and so every time I put them on I think, “I’m so skinny!” Then I remember its just the jeans.

If your jeans could offer a word of advice – maybe it’s something you’ve learned while wearing them – what would it be?

Chill the f*ck out. Everything is going to be fine.

Erin FosterWhat do your jeans know about you that no one else knows?

That my bra and underwear never match.

What’s the most memorable place these J Brand jeans have been?

Soaking wet in my bathtub.

What’s the weirdest place?

Soaking wet in my bathtub.

Was this the first time your jeans have been wet like this?

Unfortunately yes, I wish I could say I have been thrown in a pool in them, but it’s been a while since I’ve gone swimming in my clothes.

How did being in the bathtub in your favorite jeans feel?

It felt really strange at first like I was going to get into trouble. By who? I couldn’t tell you. Then once I was in there I really didnt want to come out.

Has anyone besides you worn your J Brands?

My sister bought the same pair after seeing mine but they didn’t fit her the same way, and she never wears them. Clearly they are my magic jeans and the magic can’t just transfer to someone else.

What’s the best possible ending you could imagine for them?

That they don’t fall apart and, instead, stay with me through all of the great things that are going to happen in the next ten years.

What’s the best possible thing you could be doing in them right now?

Drinking coffee and lounging.

Do you have any rules for wearing jeans? Any do’s and don’ts?

I think when you find a great pair that work for your body you should splurge and buy a few pairs right away because as a rule things go out of production as soon as they’re your favorite. Also, is there a way to get guys to stop wearing wide leg jeans? That makes me want to die alone.

Are you sentimental about your denim? Or do you love them and leave them?

I’m definitely sentimental. I still hold onto old pairs of jeans that are definitely not in style anymore, and would probably look terrible or not even fit, but when I see them I remember everything from that time in my life and I think, there is no way I can say goodbye to those!

Was there ever a pair that got away?

I had a pair I loved that were so random, they were from American Eagle Outfitters. I left them at my sister’s house a few years ago and she thought they were a pair of hers that she thought were ugly, so she threw them away and I’m still upset about it.

DEL [For the record: We would be upset, too, we love AEO jeans.]

Is there a pair that’s more important to you than all others? Why?

I have a few. The ones in the tub are important for every day, and my J Brand Maria’s are important because I can dress them up at night.

Do you think you’ll wear jeans forever?

I think I will, always. I’m not fancy and I don’t see that changing anytime soon.
