“I’d been looking for that cropped, flared jean that’s so important right now, but I hadn’t been able to find one that fit me correctly,” said Jessica Minkoff, the senior market editor at Teen Vogue on a particularly gorgeous day in NYC recently. It’s a personal thing. “My body type, I don’t know, I just can’t pull that wider leg look off like Leandra [Medine], and Jenna [Lyons], and Jennifer [Fisher],” she said. “I love it on them, but not on me.” The compromise? 3×1’s W25 Crop Baby Boot. “They do exactly what I was looking for – that little flare that’s like a bootcut, but shorter. Plus, I like the frayed hem.”

Jessica, who was a ballet dancer before she became a fashion editor, is a jeans lover through and through. We’ve never seen her in anything but, actually (“I don’t wear dresses. I can’t wear a skirt,” she told Jane). What she likes are pairs that are looser, but not baggy – “I can’t wear boyfriends. Instead I buy skinnies or straight legs in a bigger size” – and not too high in the rise. These 3x1s meet all of her criteria. “I love that they have a waistline that’s comfortable, and flattering, so not too low, either,” she said. The other thing that Jessica loves about these jeans? “That there are just two holes in the knees.” Why? “Because it’s clean enough for work.” Denim on duty? That’s our kind of girl.
