How does a men’s brand decide to launch a women’s collection? Usually, it’s when women are already wearing the men’s stuff and begging, Please, please, please may they have their own to wear? Those who were asking this of Daniel Corrigan and Jake Sargent, creative directors at Simon Miller, should be very happy. Dan and Jake just debuted a women’s line, now available exclusively at Barneys. It’s got all the Simon Miller signatures: unique washes, hand distressing and repair, Japanese denim, made-in-L.A. credibility…but, women’s gets its own fits, of course: the skinny, the moto, the classic and the slim boyfriend, which is exactly how it sounds – delightfully slimmer than your average BF.

Dan and Jake are into indigo, and not just when it comes to jeans. For spring 2015 they’re expanding into ready-to-wear. A few weeks ago, we visited them in their showroom and got to see the 100-year-old samurai jacket and an old French linen lab coat that were reincarnated – ta da – as cool women’s jackets in their NYFW presentation. We cannot wait to try the white pieces splashed with real indigo paint they showed. But for now, we are in love with their classic fit in the Troy wash, which was inspired by a 1940s pair of Lee jeans “pulled out of some coal mine,” says Dan. (The best ones usually are.) And, we’ll be watching come November when the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund winners are decided. Jake and Dan are nominees this year. For us, denim always wins. Wear their new jeans and wish them luck!
